Consultation & Estimating
How We Bring Your Project to Life
Choosing a contractor is a big decision, and we believe the process should feel clear from the very beginning. At Matthew 6 Construction, we take the time to understand your project, explain what to expect, and make sure you have the information you need before construction begins.
From your first conversation with us through the final walkthrough, our goal is to keep communication clear, expectations realistic, and your project moving in the right direction.
If you have questions at any point, we're always here to help!
1. Getting Started
Once you reach out by phone, email, text, or through our online form, a member of our team will follow up within two business days!
During this first conversation, we'll gather some basic information about your project and answer any initial questions. Depending on the type of project, we may ask for:
The project address
Photos of the existing space or property
A general description of what you'd like to accomplish
Your desired timeline
Any plans, drawings, or inspiration you already have
Your general budget or investment range
This information gives us a starting point and helps us determine the best next step for your project.
2. Initial Consultation & Good Faith Estimate
Once we have the basic project information, the next step is a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) call.
These calls are typically held virtually through Google Meet with Christian, our estimator. No camera is required. This conversation gives us an opportunity to learn more about what you're hoping to accomplish and allows you to ask questions before committing to the next phase.
During the consultation, we'll talk through things such as:
Your goals and priorities for the project
The existing space and any challenges you may be aware of
Layout and design ideas
Materials or finishes you're considering
Your desired timeline
Your general budget and expectations
The overall scope of work
Questions you may have about working with Matthew 6 Construction
We'll also provide a rough budget range based on the information available at this stage. This is intended for planning purposes and is not a final project proposal.
After the call, we'll send you a written summary within approximately three business days outlining the information discussed, so you have something to refer back to as you consider your next steps.
If the project appears to be a good fit and you're ready to continue, we'll move into the Preconstruction Services Phase.
3. Moving Forward with Preconstruction
After your Good Faith Estimate call and written summary, you'll have an opportunity to review the information we've discussed and decide whether you'd like to move forward.
If the project scope, rough budget, and initial consultation are in line with what you're looking for, the next step is our Preconstruction Services Phase.
At this point, we'll send you a Preconstruction Services Agreement outlining the next phase of work, what is included, and the associated fee. The agreement must be signed before we schedule your on-site visit.
The Preconstruction Services Fee can be paid before the appointment or on the day of the site visit, whichever works best for you.
Once the agreement is signed and the visit is scheduled, we'll begin the more detailed planning and estimating process.
4. Site Visit & Project Planning
This is where we begin moving from an initial idea toward a more defined project!
Our team will visit the property to better understand the existing conditions, take measurements, and gather the information needed to develop a more detailed scope and estimate.
Depending on the project, this phase may include:
On-site measurements and documentation
Evaluating existing conditions
Reviewing the proposed layout and scope
Identifying potential project challenges
Refining design and material selections
Coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers
Gathering more accurate pricing
Discussing project logistics and expectations
This is also the time to work through questions that cannot be accurately answered from photos or a virtual conversation alone.
The more information we can gather during this phase, the more accurately we can plan the project before construction begins.
5. Detailed Scope & Proposal
Once the site visit, planning, and pricing work are complete, we'll use the information gathered to develop a more detailed project scope and proposal.
Our goal is to make sure the proposal clearly reflects what we've discussed, including the work involved, materials, allowances or selections where applicable, and other important project details.
This gives you a much clearer picture of the overall investment and what is included before you decide whether to move forward with construction.
The Preconstruction Services Fee is applied toward your project if you choose to move forward with Matthew 6 Construction.
If you decide to proceed, we'll move into the construction planning phase!
