This project gave a summer home some much-needed extra space. The homeowners wanted more room for storage, work, and everyday use, all while keeping the addition in harmony with the original home.
The result? A practical two-story garage addition designed to support the family’s lake house lifestyle.
Adding Space for Summer Living
The Client’s Vision
Mears, MI
The goal was to create a functional extension that would make the home more usable and organized. The main level features a large garage, while the second story provides office and storage space. This quiet upstairs area gives the family a place to work or organize belongings without crowding the main living spaces.
Blending Old and New
Because this is the homeowners’ summer property, the addition needed to be durable, practical, and well suited for seasonal living. To help tie the structures together, we installed new siding on the original portion of the home as well as the addition, creating a consistent exterior appearance.
The homeowners also lived out of town during construction, so communication and coordination were important to ensure the project moved forward smoothly.
Building the Structure
Our team completed the full exterior structure, including framing, roofing, siding, and finishes. The two-story design provides a strong, functional garage below and flexible office and storage space above. Once the exterior was complete, the homeowners chose to finish the interior themselves, for cost reasons.
