From Storage Space to Fully Reimagined Bathroom

Upstairs Bathroom Remodel

The Original Space

Ludington, MI

This upstairs area wasn’t being used to its full potential. It was mainly storage for holiday bins and household overflow, with a small, outdated bathroom tucked into the layout. The space felt tight, a little disconnected, and didn’t really serve the home the way it should have. The homeowner’s goal was to change that, creating a more functional, usable bathroom that actually fit how the space needed to work day to day!

Reworking the Layout

The biggest change started with rethinking how the space was actually being used. We expanded the bathroom by taking advantage of an adjacent hallway closet area, which allowed us to open things up and create a larger, more functional footprint with a more open, spa-like feel. 🧖🏻

By reworking the layout and reconfiguring the surrounding space, we were able to improve the overall flow, create better access, and make the upstairs level feel more connected, intentional, and open throughout!

Starting Fresh Behind the Walls

Once the layout was set, we took everything back to the studs so we could rebuild it the right way. That meant all new plumbing laid out for the updated design, including the tub, shower, toilet, and vanity locations.

We also updated the electrical throughout the space, adding new lighting where it made the most sense and making sure everything was set up to support the new layout safely and efficiently. From there, the space was insulated and drywalled, giving us a clean slate for finishes.

A Bathroom That Feels Put Together

With the structure complete, the space really started to take shape and feel like a bathroom again. ✨

A freestanding soaker tub became a natural focal point in the room as the layout came together. It fits into the space in a simple, open way and helps define the overall feel without needing much around it.

Underfoot, durable luxury vinyl plank flooring was installed throughout the space, adding warmth and making the room easy to maintain. A new 48” vanity with a matching top anchors one side of the room, along with built-in linen storage that helps keep things organized!

Bringing It All Together

To wrap everything up, we installed new doors, trim, and casing throughout the space, then completed the room with a full interior paint package.

With those final details in place, the space came together as a bright, functional upstairs bathroom that now fits the way the home is actually used. What was once a storage-heavy, overlooked area is now a more open, comfortable space designed for everyday living.
